Jogja

21-11-10

1) TGKI Jogja created new posts in the hamlet of Kiaran Plagrak, Wukirsari village, located in the houses of refugees who had returned to their homes.

2) From these posts TGKI Jogja served the people of Dusun Karanggeneng, Umbulharjo, Cangkringan. Most of these people are the originally refugees in the barracks built by TGKI Jogja.

3) They are recruited into volunteers for TGKI Jogja to help clean the house, filling clean water for their neighbors.

4) Together with TGKI Jogja they also helped the villages that are totally decimated, which are located below their village next to them, namely Dusun Bronggang, Bakalan, Srodokan, Gungan, Gondang, Ngepringan, Ngancar (plenty of casualties), Glagah Harjo, Petung.

5) Therefore the Recovery Program and society’s economic development can start.

22-11-10

1) TGKI Jogja coordinates with the local government authorities for the victims of Merapi, in shelter development program for refugees.

2) Each shelter costs around Rp 7 million.

3) TGKI Jogja expects the support from the institution/church/donors for the said plan.

4) No matter how small the support/donations will be, it would certainly be a blessing for the victims, who still have to wait another 3-6 months until they could return to their damaged homes.

5) The experience of TGKI Jogja from the previous earthquake in Bantul, the shelter built by TGKI Jogja was used until 2-3 years. (Paulus Lie)

Wasior

The summary from October until November 2010

1) Given the high demand for health services and the lack of medical personnel in Wasior, TGKI went back to Wasior.

2) TGKI Wasior found out that the health centers, auxiliary health centers and hospitals were decimated. None can function properly.

3) TGKI Wasior also found out that the medical staffs are scarce.

4) TGKI Wasior, after coordinating with the relevant parties at previous times had converted the Social Services Office in Wondama Bay, the only solid structures that remain standing, into an emergency hospital.

5) The presence of the Indonesian Humanitarian Movement Emergency Hospital was vital, because some refugees who left this city have returned to Wasior, whereas the existing health facilities aren’t functioning yet.

6) TGKI Wasior sent a large number of medicines and supporting equipment to back the Indonesian Humanitarian Movement Emergency Hospital. Two volunteers of TGKI Wasior, Samuel Akeli and Manto, braved the Indian Ocean for nearly two weeks to deliver the medicines and the supporting equipment from Jakarta to Wasior. The journey took a long time because there are no direct boats from Jakarta to Wasior. They both departed from the port of Tanjung Priok to Sorong and from Sorong to Wasior.

7) TGKI Wasior spent half a day to unload the medicines and the supporting equipment off the ship upon its arrival in Wasior.

8) Three doctors who served with TGKI Wasior Wasior for a month had to work for nearly 24 hours a day.

9) Patients who were cared for in the Emergency Humanitarian Movement of Indonesia Hospital are:

a. 299 outpatients,

b. 29 patients hospitalized,

c. 7 patients of actions,

d. 1 patient minor surgery

e. 1 patient deliveries.

10) The patients served by the GKI Emergency Hospital are not only the refugees but also Wondama Bay’s county officials, members of the military and police.

11) The doctors TGKI Wasior agreed that they need a laboratory to support the analysis of patient's diseases. But the laboratory is not yet available

12) In addition to the Emergency Hospital services, TGKI Wasior also conducted mobile health services to the districts and remote communities located far from urban districts. Where there are many refugees.

13) In addition to the lack of health facilities, transportation was also an obstacle for patients to get health care.

14) Because of that the TGKI Wasior volunteers decided to pick the patients up if it is deemed necessary to deliver health services with the ambulance lent from the district government of Wondama Bay to the people.

15 Corneles Tomaluweng, one of the volunteer for TGKI Wasior from GKI Cikarang pick up and escort patients from their residence to the GKI’s emergency hospital every day, from morning until nightfall. When the patient need to be referred to Manokwari, the provincial capital, then Mrs. Hartini S. Soedarmo, a TGKI Wasior volunteer from GKI Palsigunung, along with Corneles Tomaluweng takes care of a patient’s departure.

16) This is why Mrs. Hartini S. Soedarmo often being addressed as "mom" by many residents of Wasior, while Corneles is called "Sinchan." When we asked why, residents smiled and said, "Look kaka, Sinchan is the favorite cartoon character who was favored by the people because Sinchan is resourceful, diligent and funny. Anyway we see all that in Neles." Neles pleased with this designation added from now on call me" Sinchan of Wasior. "

17) In addition to providing health services, TGKI Wasior also distributed aid in the form of:

20) The commander of KRI Dr. Soeharso, Marine Lieutenant Colonel (P) Heribertus Yudho Dansatgas Warsono and the vice Post-Disaster Recovery and Rehabilitation officer, Marine Colonel (P) Benny Sukandari, invited two doctors from TGKI Wasior to assist the health services on board the ship from 6 to 14 November 2010 for the victims who are still in Manokwari.

21) During the health service onboard the KRI Dr. Soeharso the team served 1,500 patients with various diseases with 180 patients of whom experienced major and minor surgery.

22) Dr. Leonanta Mahardika Ginting, a doctor of TGKI Wasior from GKI Sutopo, Tangerang, is responsible for the GKI emergency hospital. Dr. Leonanta became very busy because for 9 days he had worked alone when two colleagues were asked to help on board the KRI Dr. Soeharso.

23) In the midst of a super busy condition Dr. Leo said that TGKI always taught and instill the principles to see the victims as we see Christ, because the services should always be given even when we are tired to the volunteers.

24) TGKI Wasior feels like meeting with Christ in those who are sick.

25) The smile that the Dr. made makes the patients who came to be treated by Dr. Leonanta said, "Seen by the doctor alone, we already feel better."

26) Mrs. Jeanne K. Torey, the wife of Wondama Bay’s Regents said, "I think of Leo as my own son." The regent added, "GKI is a part of the society of Wondama Bay, especially for the Torey family."

27) So caring was the Regent’s wife to the volunteers and doctors of TGKI Wasior she volunteered to make food for the TGKI volunteers, everyday for almost a month. Not only making the dish but she was always accompanied and watched every movement of the TGKI volunteers.

28) When TGKI Wasior asked, "Why are you loved the Indonesian Humanitarian Movement so much?" She replied, "Indonesian Humanitarian Movement served selflessly with a sincere heart, without ever complaining, likes to joke. According to Ms. Jeanne, when the flash floods hits there were so many volunteers, but it is now reduced. Volunteer from Indonesian Humanitarian Movement stayed until more than a month, that's what makes me very, very sympathetic to the Indonesian Humanitarian Movement. This is why as Papuans we would like to thank the Indonesian Humanitarian Movement. "She added," What we've done is not comparable with the sacrifices made by the volunteers of Indonesian Humanitarian Movement for the Papuan community, especially communities in Wondama Bay."

29 Pnt. Sudiyanti, volunteer of TGKI Wasior from GKI Sumbawa Dua West Jakarta, who participated and responsible in taking care of the volunteers, said that all volunteers, both physician and non doctors, even though they are working hard but they gained weight.

30) In the midst of busyness of services given by the TGKI Wasior, they always do a prayer meeting every night. Dr. Martin said, "If we do not do communion for one night we always feel that there is something missing."

31) TGKI Wasior is not only being welcomed by the government officials, but also by the Wasior community.

32) Indonesian Humanitarian Movement’s emergency hospital is the only hospital in the city of Wasior at the moment.

33) When the people hear that TGKI Wasior will finish their service in Wasior as a form of expression of joy the people flocked the TGKI Wasior home office located in the house of the Regent of Wondama Bay.

34) People come by bringing agricultural produce such as taro, bamboo shoot, banana, sago, papaya and betel nuts. In addition to the produce, the community also brought Batik Papua for the 3 doctors and 3 volunteers of TGKI Wasior that for a month served the Wasior community.

35) Even the village chief and the people of the Raisey district who had to walk about 3 hours before getting any transport because the distance is about 25 km from the city of Wasior, came to see TGKI Wasior just to say their gratitude and bringing their produce for it was because of TGKI that 15 of their village residents recovered.

36) Thursday, November 18 2010, all health components starting from the Medical Department officials to the admin staff were gathered at the residence of the Regent to do some form of gathering.

37) Saturday, November 20, 2010 TGKI Wasior ended their service on Wasior.

38) The general public, government officials, members of the TNI and Police accompanied the volunteers of TGKI Wasior who were about to come home. Many tears were shed for the TGKI Wasior volunteers. Residents of Wasior do not seem to be willing to say goodbye to the volunteers of TGKI Wasior.

39) Dr. Johan Joteni, an alumni of UKRIDA, head of the local health center, which had been lost for some time because of the floods (and who were prayed for in the 68th Assembly of the Synod of West Java in October 2010 in Bandung), staring at the departure of the volunteers, said, "TGKI Wasior will be right back, tong [I] is alone here." Understandably Dr. Joteni himself is still recuperating from his flash flood incident.

40) Hundreds of SMS which contains a thank you message and the question about when TGKI will come back to Wasior continued to pour into the mobile phone of TGKI volunteers.

41) Some residents even accompanied the volunteers of TGKI Wasior to Manokwari.

42) In the night of November 21, 2010 all volunteers of TGKI Wasior arrived in Jakarta.

43) Shortly after we arrived, the question of when will TGKI Wasior returns re-echoed through the mobile phone. With a half-whisper Mrs. Hartini replied, "If God is pleased, in time we will return to Wasior."

44) After TGKI left Wasior, a question appeared, how is the continuation of the GKI emergency hospital? Confused, Dr. Abel, head of the Wondama Bay Health Department make plans to meet with the leaders of TGKI to ask TGKI to serve in Wasior for a few more months until Wasior recovers.
